The W12 landed just a few meters from Turn 2 in the opposite direction. And Fernando Alonso, who was surrounded by a load of cars at the time, could only see smoke. And it almost looked as if the Spaniard was going to collide with Bottas.

But maybe we underestimated Alonso’s reflexes a little. At the last moment, the Alpine driver managed an amazing evasive action to avoid a bad collision with the Mercedes.

And of course, the entire F1 fandom was in awe of the way Alonso made his way through the rather blurry corners. Not only was Bottas in the middle of the road, but there was a lot of debris all over the track, possibly from Ricciardo’s front wing.

Can Alonso score some points from the Mexican GP?

Mexico has treated Alonso a little too harshly in the past, and it was similar this year too. However, the chaos on lap 1 somehow helped the Alpine pilot to sneak into P9 on lap 20.

Furthermore, it looks like, despite the difficulties the car endured all weekend, Alonso is handling the conditions reasonably well and is on the way to scooping his only second point at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

But of course there is still a long way to go in the race and Alpine will have to make decent pit stops to keep Alonso’s hopes of scoring points alive. So can the 2-time world champion come home in the top 10? We’ll know soon enough.
