The Austrian GP gave in, and it just kept giving in from the first minutes to the last second. The race was something worth getting used to. The race was added to the drama of the race between George Russell and Fernando Alonso; the two fought for P10 to the checkered flag. While the F1 veteran rounded out the top ten, that meant Russell would be in P11.

However, the two drivers were the only ones who had a respectable scramble during the race. While most of the fights resulted in cars being pushed onto the gravel and receiving other penalties, Russell and Alonso fought flawlessly.

The fight was sealed when the Alpine had DRS on lap 68 and was close enough to the Williams to get past Turn 4. Russell had held Alonso back 10 laps and fought hard to take that point home.

This healthy rivalry continued after the race. On her cooldown lap, Alonso waves to Russell and even gives him a well-deserved thumbs up.

The Williams driver had a productive weekend and everyone was striving to get him into the points. He had a tough start to the race and fought hard to the end. “So close and yet so far,” he concluded in an interview after the race.

The Spaniard comforted Russell with a hug in the pit lane. It is clear that everyone will appreciate the efforts that put Russell on the right track.

Although he doesn’t have to score any points as a Williams driver, the 23-year-old has made great promises as a driver. While his teammate Nicholas Latifi usually falls on the lower end of the grid, Russell has pushed the Williams beyond their limits.

Alonso, himself a two-time world champion, has seen this talent and sees Russell as a future world champion.

He praised Russell’s race in Bahrain, saying, “The opportunity with the Mercedes… I think it was a real opportunity for everyone to see what a driver with George’s talent can do with a winning car. He almost won the first race at the first opportunity.

“That was, I think, for many, not just a few, proof that we knew how good he was; the race in Bahrain was enough to open [the eyes] from millions of people. “
