Verstappen prevailed in Zandvoort ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
With two cars in play, Mercedes used Bottas to help out his teammate, but Verstappen made an easy job for Finn as he effortlessly overtook on lap 31.
Mercedes tried twice with Hamilton to undercut Verstappen, but Red Bull held the position on the track both times.
Red Bull got it right when Verstappen switched to the unfavorable hard tire and was able to extend his gap to Hamilton, who was in the media.
In the parc ferme, Verstappen said: “As you can hear, it’s unbelievable. Of course the expectations were very high at the beginning of the weekend and it’s never easy to meet them, but I’m really happy to win here, to take the lead in the championship, it’s just a great day. Just the whole crowd here, it’s amazing.
