When asked if the team had anything to say about their meme, Bottas said that there was nothing to discuss. “I haven’t heard from them. I assume they’ll agree and I just thought it was funny. ”The Mercedes driver added,“ I saw it go by somewhere and I had to laugh. Sometimes you just need a bit of humor in life. “

Bottas’ humor with the Silver Arrows is something fans enjoy. Bottas joked about himself, made some funny videos for the team and found that new flair to entertain.

However, a fortnight later, ahead of the Russian GP on Sunday, Mercedes announced that the driver would change his PU again. Max Verstappen started the race from P20 and bore the penalty that Bottas had received. Bottas would start a few places before Verstappen, however; a move that many suspected played into Mercedes’ strategy of blocking Verstappen.

Bottas explained the situation from the team’s point of view. “Of course we tried to maximize the points for the constructors’ championship. We managed to draw small gaps with Red Bull. But the weekends were certainly not perfect. Lately, grid penalties have become a thing. The team is working very hard to find out exactly what is going on. They are trying to avoid the grid penalties. “

Although Mercedes tries to evade the starting penalties, they make one last move with Hamilton. Lewis will drop 10 places on Sunday after the team made minor changes to his chassis. It looks like the grid will shuffle itself because of these penalties. Still, it will make for interesting races.
