Wolff stated that the team felt more pressure fighting Ferrari than they did against Red Bull in 2021. Much is at stake for both teams as both would try to end the turbo-hybrid era with a win.

Wolff mentioned that both he and the team have more experience fighting other teams at the highest level. He also stated that Mercedes’s title fight with Ferrari was more stressful in 2018 and 2019.
“As I perceive it, this one is less of a strain on our resources than the other two,” says Wolff, comparing the stress of this season with previous years.

“Of course, we also start from the certainty that, due to our successes in the past, we will have a lot of joy in what we do every day with less pressure.
“At that time the pressure was enormous, we are still very ambitious to win, but it does not suffocate,” said Wolff.

As reported by GpFans, Mercedes and Ferrari battled two intense seasons against each other in 2018 and 2019. Wolff has stated that both seasons were the “toughest” challenge for him.

“I think my toughest fights so far have been against Ferrari in 2018 and 2019. They were a super tough opponent and we struggled against them.

In 2018 we were behind the summer break, in 2019 we struggled with engine performance. That was so intense the whole season and only when we used the beginning of autumn after Monza and we were headed for the overseas races, ”remembers Wolff.
The German team finally prevailed against its Italian rivals due to its greater consistency in the races. Plus, they made sure to implement better strategies that ended up getting them the chips.
