The F1 2021 game features the ultra-fast Jeddah Strait for the Saudi GP

The F1 2021 game features the ultra-fast Jeddah Strait for the Saudi GP

From December 3rd to 5th, in the coastal city of Jeddah, F1 will make its first attempt through the city streets, on a counter-clockwise route that will be the championship’s fastest street circuit on the calendar, with average speeds of up to 250 km / h .

The 6.174 km long route, which runs through the Corniche of Jeddah, will make it the second longest route on the F1 calendar after Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

While the sprawling layout looked quick on paper despite its 27 corners, the latest update from Codemasters for F1 2021 has now given fans a first real taste of what to expect with the latest addition to the F1 calendar.

On a flying lap it quickly becomes clear why the speeds are likely to increase. Despite its street circuit DNA, the Jeddah track is blazing fast, filled with long straights and high-speed swoops that modern F1 cars can easily lay down.

As you can see on the onboard video, Turn 1 is a medium-speed chicane to sort the pack at the start. This is followed by a combination of ultra-fast corners that lead to the first DRS straight.

The route then turns back on itself with an inclined 180-degree left curve in order to achieve further kinks with blind driveways and hardly any run-off zones.

Here it becomes clear that the character of the route is most reminiscent of the Baku street circuit and, in particular, of its fast final sector; except the Saudi route offers a full six kilometers of it.

The meandering back end of the track has no braking zone for 30 seconds before heading to the final hairpin. So expect cold brakes to be an additional challenge for drivers and teams.

Given the lack of runs, the blindness of the many corners and the fact that the race is held at night, it’s clear why Jeddah could create a lot of drama.

Add its place as the penultimate 2021 Grand Prix amid a tense title battle between Mercedes Lewis Hamilton and Red Bulls Max Verstappen, and F1 could have an explosive weekend ahead.
