The 522 kW V8 is believed to be the first of Lewis Hamilton’s Grand Prix winners to be put up for auction.
Sir Lewis Hamilton’s 2010 Turkish Grand Prix-winning McLaren-Mercedes MP4-25A Formula 1 car has been put up for sale. Price expectations are in excess of $ 5,000,000 (AU $ 6,500,000).
Registered with RM Sotheby Auctions, it is unclear who currently owns the car. However, it appears to be stored at McLaren’s private headquarters in Woking, suggesting that the British manufacturer may attempt to liquidate part of its extensive collection of automotive goods.
It is powered by a medium-sized 2.4-liter V8 gasoline engine with a naturally aspirated engine, designed and built by Mercedes-Benz, which can send up to 522 kW (at 18,000 rpm) to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
This performance figure is particularly impressive when you consider that the car weighs in at just 620 kg thanks to the stiff but feather-light monocoque made of carbon fiber honeycomb composite material.
The MP4-25A is also significant as the first F1 car to feature the controversial (and ultimately banned) F-channel aerodynamic device from 2010, which helped reduce drag and give the vehicle a (roughly) 10 km / h boost Awarded straight lines.
The current employer of the seven-time world champion, Mercedes-AMG, is known for keeping the majority of its racing cars. It is believed that this will be the first time such a vehicle has been put up for public auction.
The list says: “While the confidentiality of the customers precludes the exact specification of the number [of Lewis Hamilton’s cars] exist privately, it is believed that there are few. “
