Alonso’s compatriot Carlos Sainz Jr. achieved the best result of his F1 career by finishing second at the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday and taking his first podium for Ferrari.
Sainz is the first Spanish driver to score a podium for Ferrari since Alonso, who drove for the team between 2010 and 2014, and was close to winning the championship twice.
Alonso is a longtime supporter of Sainz, who has called him the best young Spanish driver in motorsport for many years, and said he was “very, very happy” that he got the result.
But Alonso also thought about the reaction he had after his second place for Ferrari in recent years.
“I also remember five or six years ago when I got nine or ten podiums per season [place for me]There was a funeral after that [the race] in the press conference, ”said Alonso.
“Because [people were asking]’when will you win?’
“And now I think when I see that we have 97 podiums, I think that especially the last five or six years of those podiums were not taken into account, probably when we see now.”

The two-time world champion Alonso scored his last win for Ferrari at the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix, and after that race took another eight podiums.
His last top 3 result for the team was the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix, which is his last podium to this day.
Sainz joined Ferrari at the beginning of the season after replacing four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel. He was runner-up in all qualifying games in Monaco and continued his good start at Ferrari.
“But no, I’m very, very happy for Carlos,” added Alonso.

“I spoke to him on the grid during the national anthem. At this point he was already on the podium because he started in third place after that [Charles] Leclerc problems.
“With the [Valtteri] Botta’s problems, it was even better. So also a good start to the championship.
“Hopefully we can see a race win soon. But we know that on a normal track, maybe Mercedes and Red Bull. They’re still ahead.
“It was an opportunity and it was him [able to] Take it. So it was good. “
