Sainz has been hampered by slow pit stops three times this year, at the British and Turkish Grand Prix and again at the Austin race last Sunday.
The Spaniard lost around 10 seconds in Silverstone, around five in Istanbul and three in the USA.
Sainz reckons that the problems cost him “quite a few points”.
“The pit stop, well, unfortunate again,” said Sainz after the US GP. “We have to look at it again and again and continue to improve as a team because we are not satisfied with the situation.
“There were a couple of pit stops that we are struggling with now.
“In my opinion it is the second time in a row and the third in the whole season. So there are quite a few points that we are leaving on the table because of these small problems.”
Sainz finished seventh on the Circuit of the Americas, about three seconds behind Mercedes-Valtteri Bottas and seven behind McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo.
The Ferrari driver believes the slow pit stop may have cost him fifth place as he believes he would have undercut his McLaren rival with a normal stop.

Sainz and Ricciardo got in touch when the Spaniard tried to overtake the Australian after his pit stop, but the Spaniard was unable to overtake him.
“I think I would have been pretty easy with the Ricciardo undercut, but it is what it is,” said Sainz. “We have to keep working as a team to improve it. We have to keep improving.
“There are points that may not be that important this year, but if we want to fight for championships in the future, we have to be excellent at such things, and we may still be a little lacking in those.”
The result of the United States GP left Sainz behind his teammate Charles Leclerc in the overall standings, having been ahead of the Monegasken since the Hungarian GP.
