It will be Russell’s second appearance for Mercedes in Hungary after his first F1 test in summer 2017. He also completed tests in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi for the team in 2019.
In addition to seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, the 23-year-old Briton is strongly linked to promotion to the Mercedes works team for 2022.
Russell scored his first points for Williams by finishing eighth at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, while Valtteri Bottas, who was nominated to replace him, was eliminated after a bloodbath in the first corner.
