Romain Grosjean's Mercedes test continues despite the calendar change

Romain Grosjean’s Mercedes test at Paul Ricard will continue despite the fact that the French GP has been postponed.

Grosjean was far from ending his F1 career like a fairytale for over a decade. His terrible fall at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix turned out to be the final chapter.

After the crash, however Mercedes Team boss Toto Wolff said that if the Frenchman could no longer drive before the end of his last season, the German team would offer him a day of testing in one of their cars.

Wolff and Co have kept their promise. Earlier this month it was confirmed that Grosjean will be driving the W10 for a few laps at Paul Ricard during the French GP weekend and will do a full day of testing the following Tuesday.

“I’m so excited to jump back in an F1 car,” said Grosjean, who completed a seat adjustment and simulator session at the Mercedes factory in Brackley.

“It will be a special opportunity for me and it will be a unique experience to drive a Mercedes that has won the world championship.

“I am very grateful to Mercedes F1 and Toto for the opportunity. The first time I heard about the opportunity to drive a Mercedes was in my hospital bed in Bahrain when Toto spoke to the media and made the invitation. Reading this news really cheered me up!

“In 2020, F1 didn’t have a chance to drive in France due to Covid. So it will be something special to drive a Mercedes at the French Grand Prix in 2021 and then do a test on the Circuit Paul Ricard, my home track. I can’t wait for the day to come. “

However, those plans came into question when it became known that the race in France would be brought forward a week due to the cancellation of the Turkish Grand Prix.

However, Mercedes has since confirmed that Grosjean will be driving his car for a full day of testing on the original date of June 29.

However, he will not drive any laps on the race weekend shortly before that, as this is now taking place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria and is the first half of a double header there.

He is also unable to drive the car at Paul Ricard’s as originally planned on the new date of the race, as he has an IndyCar race at Road America in Wisconsin that weekend.
