LONG BEACH, California – Romain Grosjean will ride the # 28 Dallara Honda for Andretti Autosport with DHL sponsorship for the 2022 season, the team announced on Friday
It’s the twelfth straight season for Andretti and DHL, who have been Ryan Hunter-Reay’s full sponsor since its 2012 championship season. Hunter-Reay will leave Andretti after the 2021 season, pairing Grosjean with returning riders Colton Herta and Alexander Rossi.
Andretti, who also fielded James Hinchcliffe full-time in 2021, has yet to confirm a fourth driver for 2022.
DHL will be the main sponsor of Grosjean in No. 28 in all but six races next season.
In his rookie IndyCar season since leaving Formula 1, Grosjean has achieved one pole position and three podium positions (most recently last Sunday at the Laguna Seca Raceway).
After focusing almost entirely on street and street courses this season, Grosjean, 35, switched to a full-time schedule the next year and will make his Indianapolis 500 debut. On October 8th, he will test for the first time at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Oval.
“We are delighted to welcome Romain to the Andretti Autosport family,” said team owner Michael Andretti in a press release. “He already had an impressive résumé before joining INDYCAR and seeing what he could do here in his rookie season was exciting to say the least. In addition to our already strong driver line-up for 2022, the team will benefit from his extensive motorsport experience. We are also very excited to continue our strong partnership with DHL. The DHL sponsorship is one of the longest and most successful in the paddock and we look forward to further successes on and off the track. “
The story goes on
“We are very excited to continue our successful partnership with Andretti Autosport, which offers us one of our strongest ways to connect people with our global brand,” said Mike Parra, CEO of DHL Express Americas, in a press release. “The legendary Andretti organization is run by a winning team whose members we have long considered part of our DHL family, and we are now excited to welcome their newest driver, Romain Grosjean, to our family. We are delighted that such a highly respected international competitor is taking the helm to represent DHL, and we look forward to a fruitful partnership with Romain and the entire Andretti team on and off the track. “
Grosjean finished the best second place of his career in both races this season on the road circuit of Indianapolis Motor Speedway and started from pole position for the first time in the race on May 15.
“I’m very excited to come to Andretti Autosport and drive the # 28 DHL Honda for next season,” said Grosjean in a press release. “It’s a great honor to be part of such a great team as Andretti, everyone in the motorsport world knows the Andretti name. I am super happy and proud to be racing with the team. I am also very proud to be represented by DHL. I’ve known the DHL color on racing cars for a long time. I couldn’t be more proud to represent such a great company at INDYCAR. I hope that we will be very successful together and that is our goal on all sides. I would also like to thank Dale Coyne Racing for giving me the opportunity to join INDYCAR. I enjoyed the race so much and today it gave me the opportunity to race with one of the most competitive and best teams in the world. “
