REVEALED: The amounts Mercedes billed for their official protests in Abu Dhabi

There is a saying that goes, “Be careful what you want.” Something that has turned out to be true for Formula 1. Because everyone wanted a tight and dramatic season in 2021, which we got. But it seems, even though the season is coming to an end, the drama remains as Mercedes is unwilling to let go of the events in Abu Dhabi.

Max Verstappen won the drivers’ championship ahead of Lewis Hamilton under extremely controversial circumstances. And Mercedes immediately went to the commissioners and the race management to protest Article 48.12 and Article 48.8. However, both protests were dismissed.

However, this leaves us with a question: does protest or appeal to the stewards cost money?

The answer is yes.

Formula 1 expert Sam Collins described that a protest costs € 2,000 and an appeal costs € 6,000. As things stand, Mercedes is missing 4,000 euros due to their two appointments. And soon they could have lost another 6,000 euros as they could soon appeal to the FIA.

However, it has to be mentioned that Toto Wolff will not really mind a few thousand euros.

For those who requested a protest, it costs € 2000 (Mercedes has filed two) and an appeal costs € 6000 (Mercedes will insert at least one) # F1 # Formula1

What’s next with Mercedes?

Since both appointments were rejected by Mercedes, Max Verstappen was actually crowned world champion. But that could change in the coming days or weeks or even months.

Because yesterday evening, after the stewards’ decision, the Silver Arrows announced their intention to appeal to the FIA’s International Court of Appeal. And now they have 96 hours in which to decide whether to appeal or not.

The Mercedes statement states: “We have submitted our intention to appeal the decision of the stewards under Article 15 of the Sports Act and Article 10 of the Judicial and Disciplinary Code.”

Although nothing has been confirmed yet. But there’s a good chance Mercedes will take the matter further to the FIA.

The annual award ceremony will take place on Thursday of this week. And there Max Verstappen will raise the championship trophy, unless the appeals from Mercedes interrupt his celebrations, as this season is likely to drag on for a few more weeks.
