It was a rather quiet phase in F1 with not a lot of rumors about the Mercedes F1 team. However, it feels like the time has come to shed light on the speculative talks, with the latest pointing to the possible announcement of the Mercedes driver roster for 2022.

For 5 seasons in a row, the Brackley outfit has chosen to stick with the combination of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. The latter’s performances, however, have been in decline since the beginning of the 2021 season, despite the fact that his teammate is racing at the top in contrast and chasing his 8th title.
And it wouldn’t be a huge shock if Mercedes decides to leave Bottas and cling to much younger and more masterful material, George Russell. The latest reports have rightly claimed the same, with Mercedes announcing an entirely British line-up for 2022.

When does Mercedes want to make it public?
According to Formula Passion, Mercedes is waiting for the classic British Grand Prix to arrive to reveal their decision. Since the Stuttgart team will play the leading role with two British drivers, the announcement at Silverstone could add even more spice.
British journalist Joe Saward seemed pretty confident that the likelihood of this scenario occurring is quite high. “Mercedes decisions can take a little longer,” he said. “And Silverstone seems the most obvious place for that.

“For now, it looks like Lewis Hamilton will be returning in 2022, likely on another one-year deal. And speculation about who will take the other Mercedes is in the public eye. I have a feeling there could be big celebrations during the British GP weekend, ”Saward wrote on his personal blog.

Meanwhile, there’s Russell, a driver brimming with talent, and it would be criminal to spend most of his prime with Williams. The defending champion would like to bring the Briton on board, considering that Red Bull has also found a challenging second driver in Sergio Perez.
