Acura is Honda’s premium brand in the North American market
Red Bull has announced that it will showcase the Acura branding at the US GP, marking the return of the iconic brand. Honda’s own brand operates as a luxury brand alongside the parent brand in the North American market – and its branding will appear on both Red Bull and AlphaTauri cars. The last time the brand’s name appeared on an F1 car was when Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost dominated the field in the McLaren Honda in the 1980s. The 1989 Canadian GP was the last time a branded car was operated.
“As Honda’s high-performance brand in North America, it seems only right and appropriate for Acura to be at the forefront of motorsport: Formula 1. We are delighted to welcome you back to this year’s United States Grand Prix. I remember Alain Prost Winning the US Grand Prix in 1989 with Acura on its sights. Hopefully the brand will bring us the same result this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas, “said Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull.
The Acura brand is pretty big in the spectrum of American motorsport. It has two cars in the IMSA SportsCar Championship.
“I’ve been a huge Formula One fan all my life. And growing up in Canada as a kid, I remember Acura wearing Senna and Prost helmets at the Canadian Grand Prix,” said Emile Korkor, vice president of Acura National Sales.
“Motorsport competitions are extremely important to a performance brand like Acura and we are very excited to be partnering with Red Bull Racing Honda and Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda for this race,” he added.

Honda is leaving F1 at the end of the season, but will continue to help Red Bull formulate Red Bull Powertrains next year by taking over the Honda F1 engine IP. Thanks to Honda, with whom it partnered in 2018, it has challenged for the F1 World Championship for the first time in the 2014 V6 turbo hybrid era of the sport. Before 2014, it won 4 world titles in a row between 2010-14 and was runner-up at the Brawn GP in 2009, which eventually became the Mercedes F1 team in 2010.
