Although Perez ended up in tenth place – thanks to Pierre Gasly’s late puncture – Red Bull was able to pit the Mexican to get soft tires to set the fastest lap.
Perez suffered a hot British GP after starting out of the pit lane after his spin in Sprint Qualifying before later retiring.
Red Bull ended the weekend at Silverstone with zero points, so that Mercedes only managed four points in the constructors’ championship.
Perez said of his race: “It was a difficult race. We haven’t been able to make the progress we expected. We were in a very difficult position with the tires. As soon as we got on the DRS trains it was pretty hard to overtake people.

“I think P7 was definitely possible today. I think lance [Stroll] and Fernando [Alonso], with a few more laps, could definitely have taken her, but other than that it was pretty difficult. In the end we decided on the fastest lap for strategic reasons. “
Perez was embroiled in an argument with Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen in the closing stages of the race when the two were fighting.

The stewards later decided not to take any further action.
Perez gave the story his side, stating, “I think he was just too optimistic. He moved in very late [Turn] 15, I passed him around the outside and then inside [Turn 1] I was inside so I was ahead of him and he tried to stay outside. “
Perez’s non-score at Silverstone drops him to fifth in the drivers ‘standings, behind McLaren’s Lando Norris and Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas.
