After 7 years, Red Bull is successful with the new Honda engine

Helmut Marko from Red Bull has announced that he is holding talks with the management of Audi and Porsche about a possible entry into Formula 1 in 2025, when the sport has a new engine formula. Last week, during the GP weekend in Austria, important stakeholders from FIA, F1, the current engine manufacturers and the heads of Audi and Porsche met to discuss the next Formula 1 engine. It has been said that in the spirit of a sustainable future and for emotional reasons, a new engine will be developed that will keep parts of the current V6 turbo hybrid engines but run the internal combustion engine entirely on biofuels, while increasing the electric portion dramatically, 50 percent of the time Power.
The Volkswagen Group, with its leading racing brands Audi and Porsche, has often shown interest in Formula 1. However, the interest in the sport fizzled out when he was fought in 2015 by the extremely embarrassing and expensive “Diesel Gate” scandal. He could increasingly align himself with his vision if he were interested in participating in a designer.

Red Bull has poached Ben Hodgkinson from Mercedes to head Red Bull Powertrains
Marko revealed that Christian Horner met with the bosses of Audi and Porsche. “The people in charge at VW have made it clear what they want. They advocate a completely new engine formula to get off to a good start. With the current six-cylinder, Mercedes has the greatest advantage they have. “The most successful engine,” revealed the Red Bull consultant.
With the founding of Red Bull Powertrains, there is a new engine manufacturer who, if necessary, could be able to supply new designers. Formula 1 also wants to attract the Volkswagen Group because it could also be a potential engine manufacturer.
Ferrari’s Mattia Binotto has said that combining the current engine with biofuels and a reinforced electrical element would be the way to go. Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff is also of the opinion that the use of biofuels should also be increased in the short term. In 2022, 10 percent biofuel will be used in the new engines instead of the previous 5 percent.
However, Red Bull, which is the newest manufacturer and, unlike Ferrari, Mercedes and Alpine, has no road car business to support, wants to scrap the current engine completely. It wants a bold new engine that is sonically emotional, because that’s what made F1 an iconic sport. She also wants more standardization of parts to reduce costs and may not be fully committed to using renewable biofuels like ethanol because they are too expensive.

The Audi boss attended the meeting for the next Formula 1 engine formula
“The increase from five to ten percent bioethanol has already cost us tens of millions of dollars. Anyone who wants to switch to fully synthetic fuels must do so at the same time as the new engine regulations. Fuels have to be available at a reasonable price, that is currently not the case, “disagreed Marko Wolff.
But with so many manufacturers advocating the same thing, Red Bull may not get away with it as it did recently when Honda announced its exit from F1 at the end of the 2021 season. Red Bull has acquired the Honda-IP, but on the condition that engine development is halted until 2025. This cannot happen especially if Audi and Porsche decide to enter F1 as a manufacturer and not just as a designer. That could of course be different if you, as a designer at Red Bull, come on board as an engine supplier.

One thing is very clear, the Volkswagen Group will not support any engine that ultimately pollutes the environment because of its appearance. Recently it even relocated the Bugatti hypercar brand to the electric hypercar manufacturer Rimac and instead, through its subsidiary Porsche, has a 24 percent stake in the Rimac Group and a 45 percent stake in the JV, which is now called Bugatti Rimac, which many believe is the ultimate hypercar company.
