Christian Horner believes Red Bull’s return to winning ways has put “petrol in everyone’s tank” after Mercedes’ “annihilation” of Formula 1 ended.
After seven years in which Mercedes has won everything the sport has to offer, Red Bull has made a breathtaking start to the season to take over both the drivers ‘and constructors’ championships.

On the Beyond the Grid podcast, Horner suggested the fight is good for the sport and hopes the fight will last the entire campaign.
“It’s been a while [since challenging] But that’s what we’ve worked for and to race and to know that you have a chance to win, it just puts gas in every tank, “he said.
“The whole factory and the entire team are fully motivated and love this competition. Let’s see where it ends.
“Mercedes, let’s not forget, has won everything for seven years and it has been seven long years to get us back into a competitive position and give our drivers a competitive car, especially with a pandemic in the last 18 months and so on is fantastic.
“I think it’s good for us, it’s good for the sport and I hope it goes all the way to the wire.”
Red Bull has “wind in its sails”
Red Bull is the only team other than Mercedes to have won an F1 title since 2010, after having been successful with Sebastian Vettel for four years between 2010 and 2013.
When asked how much he missed the feeling of winning, Horner joked: “It’s been so long, I can’t remember how it felt the last time.
“We went through an incredibly successful patch for four years. At the time everyone was saying, ‘You dominate everything and it’s boring’. You remember that two of those championships in 2010 and 2012 went to the last race against Fernando.
“What we’ve seen since then was… not domination, it was annihilation.
“We’ve won races pretty much every year since then, but it had to be opportunistic wins on tracks that suited us, or through clever strategy, or achieved.
“But to set up a sustainable campaign, it just brings a lot of wind into our sails and we missed that feeling of winning. You can feel that in the team. “
