Red Bull boss Helmut Marko discussed “unilateral” decisions in favor of Mercedes with Formula 1 bosses this season.
The two F1 teams were caught up in battles as there was a close title race between their respective drivers Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. With two races to go, Verstappen is currently eight points ahead of Hamilton.
Marko said he spoke with the FIA and Liberty Media about regulatory changes related to the rear wing that were implemented after Mercedes complained about Red Bull.
“When Mercedes saw that we were the same or even faster, Flexi-Wings came first and then all sorts of other wrong arguments,” Marko told motorsport.com.
“We saw these actions as a very unsporting gesture and then concentrated on what was happening at Mercedes, for example with these wings. That’s part of it when the fight is as intense as it was this year, and especially when someone is not used to competition from another team …
“We felt a certain one-sidedness in the decisions. But in the meantime we have had several discussions with the FIA and also with Liberty, so I would say that it is partly ‘part of the game’. “
The rivalry between the teams was the act of the season and included two falls between Verstappen and Hamilton. The title will be decided at the Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix on December 5th and 12th, respectively, but no one can say who will win.
This includes former driver Jenson Button, who told Sky: “I still can’t get off the fence and that’s why it’s great. I actually have no idea, they both do a great job, teams do a great job.
“It looks like Mercedes has the upper hand at the moment, but the next track will be very different. And then of course Abu Dhabi. We also don’t know what to expect from this new layout. “
