Red Bull’s senior advisor Helmut Marko says the loss of Singapore on the calendar is a major blow for the team as it “fits” a track in Formula 1.
The Marina Bay Street Circuit was the latest victim on the F1 calendar to be dropped due to COVID-19 uncertainties while various others are still pending as to whether or not to target 23 races with F1 this season.
It is the second year in a row that the race has not been held in Singapore as last year’s event was canceled due to “ongoing nationwide restrictions on construction and business activities” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although he has not won with Sebastian Vettel since 2013, it is a track that historically has been suitable for Red Bull, with Max Verstappen taking a podium in both 2019 and 2018.
It was an impressive start for Red Bull on street circuits, with a win for Verstappen in Monaco and a win for teammate Sergio Perez in Azerbaijan ahead of Paul Ricard in just over a week.
