Power relations in the remaining F1 races are unclear, says Red Bull

Since Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are only two points apart in the overall standings, the competition is completely open with seven races to go.

But with recent events on the Monza and Sochi powertracks appearing to favor the Mercedes package, things are less clear for the remaining Grand Prix.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner assumes that neither of the two teams can be sure anywhere from now on, which makes the outcome of the competition particularly difficult to predict.

“I don’t think there is any other track that stands out as much as Russia and Monza,” said Horner.

“Mercedes will certainly be strong in Turkey, where they won last year. But then we start coming to Austin, we should be there or near, and in Brazil and Mexico we have always been strong.

“We don’t know anything about Qatar, we don’t know anything about Jeddah. And then it’s Abu Dhabi.

“So you can say it’s 50/50 in what’s left on the table, with one team preferring a little more than the other.”

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff agreed that the nature of the remaining stretches suggests there isn’t much of an advantage for either team.

In addition, he said that this year’s lessons showed that even previous appearances on racetracks didn’t guarantee anything for this time.

“I stopped predicting whether it would be a strong race for us historically because everything changes with the new regulations,” he said.

“We definitely knew Monza and Sochi would get closer, but the reality is that we are where we are and that is the point gap.

“I doubt either team will make massive swings up or down, it’s just about continuing to do the best possible job.

“But I believe that neither the driver nor the team can feel comfortable in the current situation because there is simply no point gap.”
