Alpine’s Esteban Ocon won his first F1 race at the Hungarian Grand Prix after intense drama during the race. This included a collision on lap 1 between six drivers. Pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton finished third in the race, but that was enough for him to take the lead in the F1 standings as title rival Max Verstappen finished tenth. Here is the full result of the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix after an action-packed race on the Hungaroring.
Result of the Hungarian Grand Prix 2021: Esteban Ocon wins
While Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes F1 got off to a clean start from pole, there was drama around him on the first lap of the race. In a rain start at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2021, five drivers retired on the first lap when Valtteri Bottas got stuck and crashed into Lando Norris and Sergio Perez with Max Verstappen and also had the brunt of it. Further back, Lance Stroll also locked himself and hit Charles Leclerc, who turned around, in the back. As a result of the falls, Bottas, Perez, Norris, Stroll and Leclerc all had to give up as the race was canceled with a red flag.
After several drivers were eliminated, the leading group changed completely. Hamilton continued to lead the race, but this time by George Russell in second place ahead of Esteban Ocon in third. However, since Hamilton had not switched to dry tires like the others, the Mercedes driver pitted a few laps later and was the last to start the race again. As a result, Ocon took the lead after Russell dropped back from a puncture.
With an assessment error by Mercedes, Hamilton had everything to do from last place. However, the seven-time driver champion made rapid progress and improved to 13th place on lap 10. On lap 25, the Briton drove the fastest laps as he had already moved up to eighth place.
While Hamilton drove an outstanding race, the tag belonged to Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, who surprisingly led almost all 70 laps of the Hungaroring to win his first F1 race. Ocon kept the lead despite strong pressure from four-time driver master Sebastian Vettel, who chased him in second.
