Norris is cleared for the Belgian GP after the fall of Eau Rouge

Norris is cleared for the Belgian GP after the fall of Eau Rouge

In the final Q3 shootout, which was held in very wet conditions, Norris lost control of his McLaren to Eau Rouge when his car slipped off the track.

Norris made severe side-to-side contact with the tire wall at the top of the Raidillon, a high-speed impact that destroyed both ends of the cars and threw him back onto the track.

Norris was soon able to get out of the car on his own but seemed to have some discomfort around his elbow and later went to a nearby hospital for preventive X-rays.

These scans did not reveal any injuries. Norris’ team boss Andreas Seidl confirms that the Briton can compete in tomorrow’s Grand Prix.

“The checks were made in the hospital, including on his elbow, which was a little painful. Everything is good and he is good to race again tomorrow,” Seidl told the media on Saturday evening.

Given the severity of the damage done to Norris’ McLaren, he will likely need a new chassis and engine, which would force him to start from the pit lane rather than from ninth on the grid.

When asked about the status of Norris’ MCL35 and its Mercedes engine, Seidl said a full investigation of what can be salvaged is still ongoing.

“The damage assessment is still ongoing, and the assessment of the consequences as well, and what that means for what we have to change, and what that means, for example tomorrow’s starting position, is still in progress,” explains Seidl.

“I think it was a pretty heavy impact, but I think we know the safety that is built into these cars and the safety that the track offers, luckily it probably only had a few bruises. And luckily we can You’re racing again. ” Morning.

“The most important thing is that Lando is doing well. Now our focus is on making the car fit for tomorrow. Since we know that Lando is in top form, we can hopefully get back into position to score points with him. “
