Nico Rosberg believes Max Verstappen and Red Bull’s behavior in the final races leading up to the summer break has “played into the hands of Mercedes” as Lewis Hamilton seeks an eighth F1 record.

Verstappen had been leading the overall standings since the Monaco Grand Prix in May and had since prevailed as the seven-time world champion.

At the British Grand Prix, however, the championship took a new turn, with Verstappen going into the weekend with a 33 point lead.

The two championship protagonists came together on the first lap of the race when the Dutchman raced for the crash barriers at 180 miles per hour and crashed heavily into the flank of the tire.

Hamilton, despite receiving a 10-second penalty for a collision, won the race in front of his home crowd, barely giving Verstappen a huge lead.

But the incident was all that could be said about starting the Hungarian Grand Prix, which resulted in Verstappen responding to questions about the accident in the pre-race press conference.
