Nico Rosberg’s management career has got off to a dream start. His company, the Rosberg X Racing Team, won the first two races of the newly created Extreme E competition. After taking on the role of team leader, he now has a new appreciation for his former boss Toto Wolff.

The Austrian entrepreneur transformed Mercedes when he took over the management of the team in 2014. Since then he has won every single driver and constructor title. But it wasn’t as easy as it looks to the eye.
During this time he had to micro-manage his drivers, especially when Nico Rosberg was sharing the garage with Lewis Hamilton when there was frequent tension in the team. And Rosberg now regrets having criticized Toto Wolff’s methods.

“I always have to be careful not to intervene too much. There’s a fine line to walk. But it’s also a new challenge for me because I’ve never been on the opposite side of the street, ”says Rosberg from personal experience.

He added, “Now I look back and when I criticized Toto, I now think, ‘Oh shit, OK, maybe I shouldn’t criticize him.’ It’s actually pretty difficult to be in that role. Also in the way you interact with the drivers. It’s hard to understand what the way to support the most. “

The duo Molly Taylor and Johan Kristoffersson form the top-class line-up of his team in Extreme E. If Rosberg is worried about his leadership role, he no longer needs it. That’s because Kristoffersson made a glowing assessment of his boss.

“I have to say it’s nice. I like to have discussions with Nico and bring in all of my ideas. He also likes to be in the moment of competition. He’s used to it. I think he also likes the position he is in now and he wants to get involved. It’s always good to have someone with whom you can discuss different things and so on. “

So far, Rosberg has beaten his former rival Lewis Hamilton’s team, X44. He hopes to be able to continue this trend.
