New York Yankees’ Absolute Dominance Finds an Uncanny Relation to F1 Thanks to Joe Rogan and a Popular Comedian

New York Yankees' Absolute Dominance Finds an Uncanny Relation to F1 Thanks to Joe Rogan and a Popular Comedian

Is F1 a competitive sport? One would think yes. You see drivers and teams going all guns blazing against each other for the smallest of gains. But it is truly competitive, wonder Joe Rogan and his guest.

Competition breeds innovation and quality. It also makes the sport more attractive to the viewer, who is the end consumer. A sport or a league that doesn’t offer that thrill becomes too bland to watch.

The question of good competition is brought up in all sports. Soccer sees the same question asked, and so do F1 and MLB. On The Joe Rogan Experience show, Andrew Schulz discusses the question of competitiveness in F1.

Schulz said, “It’s so unfair, it’s like baseball. Like there’s one team like the Yankees and there are other teams that just can’t compete. Like Williams can’t compete. So if they get like 9th place, they’re going crazy. The guy is crying. Because you finally get points.”

The comedian makes a fair point with regard to the lack of a third (or even fourth) horse in the title race in F1 for the past decade or so. The last non-Red Bull and Mercedes winner was Brawn in 2009.

When there are just 2 teams winning, investments in other teams tend to become more difficult to justify. Teams no longer have the prospect of challenging for the title; their only goal is to get 3rd, 4th, and 5th places, which in sports don’t matter that much.

Joe Rogan also asks Schulz which is the top team in F1. Schulz said, “It was Mercedes, but now Red Bull is fighting for it.”

Unfortunately for Mercedes, Schulz makes an indicting statement about the team’s poor performance this season. The Brackley-based team will need to see to it that they don’t lose their place among the title contenders.

Joe Rogan believes F1 cars are ‘wild’

Discussing F1’s lack of competitiveness with Schulz on his show, the duo move on to comparing the F1 car and the GT car. For the unaware, Grand Tourer (or GT) cars are high-speed and long-distance cars. They are a mix of high performance with luxury; the latter is something you wouldn’t find in an F1 challenger.

Rogan goes on to ask Schulz, “Have you seen the difference between a GT car and an F1 car going around the same circuit? [Schulz denies knowledge of it]. It’s so striking!”

Rogan then goes on to show Andrew a video with a split view of a GT car and an F1 car racing on the famous Spa circuit in Belgium. He said, “That’s wild sh*t, man!”

While Rogan and Andrew Schulz’s light-hearted conversation wouldn’t help Mercedes out of the pit they’ve dug themselves, their comparison of F1 with baseball seems very justified. Will we see an underdog or a back-of-the-grid team compete (leave winning aside) for the title? Let us know your thoughts.
