Formula 1 Grand Prix action promises to be just as hard and hot off the track as it was at the British GP two weeks ago when Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton resumed their battle for the 2021 World Championship in Hungary this week.
Red Bull Racing has received an official FIA hearing to appeal against the severity of the 10-second penalty imposed on Hamilton after his collision with Verstappen on the first lap at Silverstone and are clearly hoping for a bigger hit than the failed one Time penalty to stop Hamilton to win the race.
RBR consultant Dr. Helmut Marko, a former Formula 1 driver who reports directly to company boss Dietrich Mateschitz, calls for a racing ban for Hamilton.
“I don’t know what the maximum penalty is, but such dangerous and reckless behavior should be punished with a ban or something,” said Marko to Sky Germany.
“You can’t be within normal sports code.”
Red Bull has made all the noise since the crash, which, according to team boss Christian Horner, cost more than $ 2 million after Verstappen’s car was effectively destroyed by a 51g impact with the safety barrier at Copse Corner.
“The reality is that Hamilton met his opponent in a car that is now competitive. I agree that both drivers have to show each other respect, but Hamilton was the aggressor, ”says Horner.
“It’s no secret that we felt then, and still think, that Hamilton received a light fine for this type of incident.
“Hungary will be a different challenge for the car and the team and we will all be fully motivated to maintain our championship lead. Max won’t comment on anything from Silverstone and wants to speak on the track.

“He is determined to leave this incident behind and use it, like us, as additional motivation for the rest of the season.”
That is clearly Verstappen’s plan, who fortunately did not escape serious injury at Silverstone while preparing for Hungary.
“The team can take care of the official things and everything that needs to be checked after the crash, but my job is the same as always – to do my best and try to win on Sunday.”
Mercedes F1 has avoided inflammatory comment and instead used the preparation for the Hungarian Grand Prix to announce the creation of Ignite, a joint non-profit initiative with Hamilton to support greater diversity and inclusion in motorsport.
“Everyone has their own opinion on the events at Silverstone, and it was a very polarizing incident,” says team principal Toto Wolff.

“The most important thing, however, is that Max is fine. It’s never nice to see a car accident, especially at such high speeds and in such a corner, so we’re glad he made it through the accident unscathed. “
Hamilton has donated nearly $ 100 million of his own money to the Ignite program, which is the main outcome of the Hamilton Commission tasked with studying diversity in Formula One.
“Ignite will focus its work on expanding the pipeline of more diverse talents who want to enter the motorsport industry – and creating enthusiasm for motorsport through STEM training,” says Mercedes.
The UK-focused initiative’s efforts are centered around developing exciting and stimulating materials for the STEM curriculum, developing more diverse teachers to inspire students from underrepresented groups in STEM, enhancing educational enrichment in STEM and motorsport and providing financial support to students who wish to pursue STEM careers.
