Mercedes was the first team to show what its new car could look like for the 2022 Formula 1 season.
The team shared a picture on social media with the tagline “New Year, New Mercedes” that shows what appears to be an early version of the W13 – the car the team will be racing for this year’s World Championship.
F1 introduced radically new engineering regulations this year that will drastically change the look of cars. Last season it showed a show car that presented a possible interpretation of the regulations.
The image revealed by Mercedes differs from this show car in a few obvious ways. The front wing shown in the Mercedes has three instead of four elements, its side boxes are noticeably larger and its rear wing is shaped differently.
The appearance of the teaser image follows Mercedes last week sharing a video of the new spec 2022 W13 engine that launched for the first time. No other team has revealed as many of their 2022 plans and pre-season testing is still over seven weeks away.
The team has won the last eight consecutive constructors ‘championships and seven straight drivers’ titles until Lewis Hamilton lost the championship to Red Bulls Max Verstappen last year.
