The seven-time world champion announced on Wednesday that Mercedes had postponed a Formula 1 test with Frenchman Romain Grosjean due to travel restrictions and quarantine requirements.
“We are determined to give Romain his chance in a Mercedes F1 car and are working on postponing the test later this summer,” Mercedes said in a statement.

The Frenchman’s drive in Lewis Hamilton’s 2019 title-winning car was scheduled for June 29 at the French Le Castellet circuit – seven months after his escape after a fiery accident in Bahrain that turned out to be his last race in Formula 1.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff had offered a test when Grosjean, who now drives in the US Indycar series, was in the hospital with burns on his hands.
Grosjean’s Haas car split in half and exploded in a ball of fire after breaking a metal barrier in Sakhir on the first round, the Frenchman miraculously breaking free and jumping free.
