Over the past few months, discussions have taken place with representatives of all the suppliers present as well as representatives of the Volkswagen Group.
While it is agreed that the current units are too expensive, it seems difficult to find a way to cut costs without devaluing the capital already invested by suppliers.
After the most recent round of talks in Italy, Wolff said: “The MGU-H will be dropped if we reconcile many other points.
“I think it’s at least a compromise that … I can’t speak for anyone but Mercedes. We are ready to join to make the Volkswagen Group’s entry easier, but there are a few other issues where compromises are made must be found “.
“If no compromise can be found, we will likely fall back on governance and have the 2026 regulations that the FIA and FOM work out.”
F1 engine discussions are “positive”
Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto confirmed the general agreement that the MGU-H will be scrapped before the introduction of the new specification units.
“Since the last meeting in Austria, there have been many discussions about the next steps to define the future of the engine,” said Binotto.
“So far the discussions have been positive, all manufacturers have agreed to remove the MGU-H, and we are happy with it.
“There are still a lot of details to be discussed and agreed, but in general the discussion is positively moving.”
