Mercedes Formula 1 young driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli will make his Formula 1 debut in September and contest the last three races of the Italian F4 championship together with Prema.
Antonelli is successful in karting, with titles in the WSK Champions Cup and ROK Cup in the Mini-Class, the WSK Open Cup, the Euro Series, the Final Cup and the Super Master Series in the OKJ, the WSK Euro Series and the FIA European Championship in OK.
Antonelli joined the Mercedes junior driver program in 2019 and is now taking the next step in his racing career towards formula racing.
The Bologna-born driver will debut in the Italian F4 series just days after his 15th birthday.
“I am very happy to announce that I will be accompanying Prema in these last 3 races of the Italian F4 Championship,” said Antonelli.
“This is an exciting new challenge for me and I can’t wait to get started. A big thank you to Prema and Mercedes for giving me this great opportunity. “
The next round of the Italian F4 championship will take place from September 11th to 12th at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
The last two events of the season will take place from October 9th to 10th in Mugello and from October 30th to 31st in Monza.
“Antonelli is one of the most outstanding talents in karting,” said Prema team boss Angelo Rosin.
“He impressed at a young age and achieved remarkable success there. It will be very interesting for us to see how he adapts to a new form of motorsport.
“Switching to single seaters is not an easy task as it is a completely new experience. We will therefore support him in the changeover. We’re equally looking forward to his competitive F4 debut. “
