Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff sells his Ferrari collection

Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff sells his Ferrari collection

After Sebastian Vettel sold all of his Ferraris in a so-called post-closeup cleanup earlier this year, Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff is now commissioning the same auction house to shorten his own garage. Though he’s probably not motivated by sizzling resentment against a team that slanders him, he’s ditching a few of his own Ferraris and somehow a rather unique AMG that Wolff even helped develop as a driver.

Tom Hartley Jnr is the auction house that is in charge of selling the cars as single lots and advertises that they come from Toto Wolff’s personal collection. There is a LaFerrari Aperta, a Ferrari Enzo and the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series, which Wolff drove on the Nordschleife back in 2008 to grow to a series of just 350 cars, which were the most powerful Mercedes series cars at the time.

Wolff may have driven the car to develop the car, but he hasn’t gotten very far since buying it, traveling just 5,000 kilometers (3,106 miles). His Enzo ran even less at just 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles), while the LaFerrari Aperta reportedly only has delivery miles.

The SL65 and LaFerrari Aperta are like new and come with everything including original sales certificates. The Enzo was apparently sold to Wolff by Tom Hartley Jr. in 2014 and has probably not seen much since then, given the rather obvious conflict with the Mercedes-Benz motorsport boss on a Ferrari.

Speaking of optics, Wolff himself says that nothing can be read into the sale. He only clears a few things out for the very good reason that he doesn’t drive them. We’re all about it here – ok? – I can’t afford a supercar, but I don’t want the people who can just keep them as museum pieces.

When asked at the Styrian Grand Prix this weekend whether it had anything to do with the business in Formula 1, where Wolff has a significant stake in the Mercedes team, he said: “No, it has a simpler, simpler background I don’t drive the cars anymore. I do not have enough time. I don’t think it looks particularly good if I were to cruise around in a Ferrari, though [they’re] a fantastic brand. “

“But I haven’t driven the cars for a long time and I drive the Mercedes electrically at the moment,” he added.

A LaFerrari Aperta costs around $ 4.5 million, which is a hell of a high price for something you can park. The SL65 Black Series is a relative bargain, for just £ 299,950 ($ 319,585) and the Enzo goes for pretty much any number you want to go north of $ 1.5 million. Especially in view of the extremely low mileage and the clear origin of these cars, as well as the fact that they come from such a well-known name, they will not be offered as auction bargains anytime soon.
