Despite the fear of impending engine penalties, Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff has claimed that his team will continue to be “aggressive” in the final races of the season. Wolff had previously suggested that Lewis Hamilton might face an engine penalty in one of the upcoming races for reliability reasons.

The Brackley team hopes to win the Drivers ‘and Constructors’ Championship for the eighth consecutive season this season. In addition, star driver Hamilton is hoping to beat Michael Schumacher’s record by winning his eighth driver’s title of his career this season.

Toto Wolff explains the reasons for continuing to be “aggressive”

Speaking to Formula1.com, Toto Wolff said that due to the unpredictability of the 2021 F1 season, Mercedes F1 has no choice but to be aggressive in the upcoming races. While Lewis Hamilton won the Russian Grand Prix last week, title rival Max Verstappen finished second despite having started from behind due to an engine penalty.

“The last moments of the last race in Russia proved that anything can happen in Formula 1 and fate can change in the blink of an eye. This season keeps us all busy and we have a lot of fun with it, but it also means that we have to approach the season aggressively in order to maximize the available points, “said Wolff.

Will Lewis Hamilton take a motor penalty at the Turkish Grand Prix?

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff suggested that the team still has to decide when is the right time for Lewis Hamilton to take an engine penalty. When asked if Hamilton would need a fourth engine, Wolff said that “it is a possibility,” but that “when and how has not yet been decided”.

The Austrian said it was inevitable that the seven-time driver championship would take an engine penalty at some point during the season as he said the team shouldn’t get a ‘DNF’. Wolff emphasized that the team can manage even if it doesn’t get a podium in every race, as the season is long and can recover in other races. The Mercedes F1 boss said the team looked at the “parameters of the engines” to make sure they had “no reliability issues”.
