On Sunday’s 48th lap, the two rivals battled for the lead, with Hamilton’s Mercedes just ahead of the Red Bull, which was on the inside.
Verstappen ran far and the change forced both drivers off the track, with the Dutchman holding the lead for a few more laps before the seven-time world champion finally took the lead.
While Hamilton took the lead and won anyway, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes that Verstappen should have received a penalty.
An investigation was deemed unnecessary after the FIA consulted footage provided by broadcast cameras – but Verstappen’s on-board footage shows that the Dutchman clearly wasn’t filming as aggressively as he could have been, forcing Hamilton off the road.
Formula 1 will travel to the Qatar Grand Prix on the Losail Circuit on November 21st. Red Bull star Verstappen is 14 points ahead of Mercedes Hamilton.
