Max Verstappen frowns at Mercedes F1 because he accuses Valtteri Bottas of the Mexican GP Woes

Max Verstappen frowns at Mercedes F1 because he accuses Valtteri Bottas of the Mexican GP Woes

There was a lot of blame throughout the Mexican GP weekend. In retrospect, that’s probably due to the intensity of the championship. First, Red Bull made Yuki Tsunoda the scapegoat for her agony in qualifying, the Mercedes blamed Valtteri Bottas for Verstappen’s advantage on the first lap. Ironically, Max Verstappen supported Finn, where Mercedes comforted Tsunoda.

After the race, Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton claimed Bottas left the door open to Max Verstappen. Although the pole-sitter’s defense was not the best, Verstappen had hit the brakes too late and had a neat maneuver into the corner. So it’s not really Bottas’ fault, because he wanted to make his own exit successful.

And Verstappen agrees. The Dutchman thinks it’s “pretty cheap to put everything on Bottas”. Although Mercedes had the suspension in the front row, they came onto the track at a disadvantage. The Red Bull machines simply live from the grandeur of the track.

Even Hamilton later complained about the problems with the W12, constantly reminding his team that they just weren’t fast enough for their rivals.

A race to forget for Valtteri Bottas

It wasn’t the best Sunday for Bottas. The driver was ready for tacos and after taking pole position in Mexico on Saturday, a race win. In the race on Sunday, however, Valtteri had bad luck.

The turn 1 defense aside, shortly afterwards Bottas hit Ricciardo and spun in the middle of the track. The man who had started the race from pole was now behind the grid. He also spent his entire first stint staring at the rear of the Aussie’s McLaren.

Despite the attempt to overtake Ricciardo, the defending champion kept Bottas away. Bottas got a breather when Ricciardo pitted, but his own pit stop lasted a sad 11 seconds. To his dismay, Valtteri left the pit lane again behind the McLaren.

And so went his race, in which he chased Ricciardo almost beaten; until Mercedes called him over again to try to play a team role. Bottas should rob Verstappen of the fastest lap. He did so but didn’t get the point for his purple lap when he crossed the finish line in P15.

But for the Finn the past is a thing of the past when he sips a good Mexican beer and enjoys the blue sea. After all, the Brazilian GP is coming up this week and Bottas has to recharge his batteries. He may have some people to prove wrong.
