Martin Brundle’s first grid walk in two years did not go exactly according to plan at the US Grand Prix, as the F1 commentator was snubbed by rappers Megan Thee Stallion and tennis legend Serena Williams. However, the rejections at least contributed to a number of memorable moments the former driver has had with the microphone on an F1 circuit since his 1997 appearance. Express Sport has selected the best of them.
Embarrassing Interview with Ozzy: Brundle was with ITV Sport for six years when he met Ozzy Osbourne on the grid prior to the Canadian Grand Prix. He apparently knew things weren’t going to go so well when he said live, “I want to interview this guy because he’s a total fruit cake.”
In fact, music star Osbourne seemed a bit confused when Brundle, after negotiating past the star’s guardian, opened the interview by saying he heard that Ms. Sharon (Osbourne) had received some good news this week .
Osbourne stuttered as he tried to answer before accidentally changing the subject and saying, “I’ll do this, right now we’re writing a musical about the life and days of Rasputin the Mad Monk and we just, uh, they are to let it go on Broadways. “
Brundle replied, “Okay, I’ll try to come up with a question that goes with that answer,” before asking if Osbourne had brought the dogs. After being answered in a swear phrase, Brundle ended the interview.

Brundle fails to lift the lid off Beckham: While Osbourne couldn’t fully understand Brundle’s questions, unlike one of the F1 commentator’s other interview goals this summer, he at least understood English.
At the 2003 Spanish Grand Prix, Brundle tracked down then Real Madrid star Roberto Carlos and asked if he could speak briefly for British television. Brazilian defender Carlos replied in a forceful, high-pitched voice and said, “I don’t understand English.”
Even so, Brundle thought he would try his luck by asking if Carlos knew anything about David Beckham’s alleged move from Manchester United to Madrid and asked, “Is Beckham coming to Spain?”
Carlos said nothing, although there was a knowing look on his face, and the pundit immediately walked away smiling, before declaring: “That’s good, ‘no comprende’.”

Kimi talks about his toilet break: While many of Brundle’s memorable moments stem from not getting a straight answer, Kimi Raikkonen took things to the other extreme at the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix.
The Finn, then at McLaren, missed the pre-race presentation for football legend Pele and was soon confronted by the man with the microphone when he reappeared on the track.
“Yeah, I had as ** t,” came the frank answer.
To Brundle’s appreciation, he kept his composure and sense of humor by adding, “Well, at least you have a nice, light car.”
Brundle launches towards the ‘cheese counter’: During the 2010 season, Sebastian Vettel was on his way to his first F1 title, so it was a hot property for journalists.
In fact, Brundle approached the German driver during a race, only to find him already surrounded by other media representatives, but he did not let that stop him. “Are we in a queue?” he asked Tanja Bauer from Sky Germany.
When he was told, he said, “Okay, how big is the queue? Do we need to take a ticket as if we were at a cheese counter?” before she passed Bauer to speak to Vettel before she could.
Maybe Brundle knew he’d been rude and then hurried off and told the cameras, “I’m in trouble.”
Brundle hammers Horner: Christian Horner took aim at Brundle, previously with Sky Sports, at the 2014 Singapore Grand Prix – but he wished he hadn’t.
Before the race, Red Bull boss Horner praised the criticism and mocked Brundle with “It’s a shame that you’re too old to really have driven here. You would have liked that. “
The grin on his face was quickly gone when Brundle replied, “I’m too old, it’s a shame you weren’t fast enough to get into Formula One.”
It was almost as if he had prepared the line.
