Since Mercedes does not yet have to confirm its second driver for the next season, talks continue to circulate about the future of Russell and Bottas – who are vying for this important seat under team boss Toto Wolff.
Russell, after his second place and his first podium at the Belgian Grand Prix last weekend, Bottas is breathing around the Mercedes seat after a difficult season for the Finnish driver – who is fourth in the drivers’ standings.
And since the decision of Mercedes was on everyone’s lips, Hamilton heated up the discussions during the last practice session of the Dutch Grand Prix on Saturday with a certain gesture.
F1 reporter Lawrence Barretto took to Twitter on Saturday to reveal Hamilton’s actions after the last practice session at Zandvoort was red flagged.
After Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz crashed in turn three, the red flag was immediately hoisted in FP3. But when the cars queued to exit the pit lane after the crash, Hamilton showed an air of class.

Williams engineers raced to prepare Russell’s car for qualifying two, of which three minutes and 54 seconds were left.
However, they did not manage to get the 23-year-old back on track in time.
Meanwhile, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secured pole position at his home Dutch Grand Prix on Saturday, with Hamilton second and Bottas third.
