The groups of F1 fans who repeatedly booed Lewis Hamilton were warned by Damon Hill and former Dutch F1 driver Jan Lammers. Hamilton has often faced the ridicule of the vocal departments of the supporters of title rival Max Verstappen.

Audiences at the Belgian Grand Prix and the subsequent Dutch Grand Prix are likely to be highly partial to Verstappen, given his nationality and the geographical proximity of the two countries.

Previous races at Spa-Francorchamps, the venue for the Belgian Grand Prix, have been dominated by the orange fanatics, some of whom are following the F1 calendar across Europe and even around the world to show their support for the 23-year-old .

Speaking to Tom Clarkson on the F1 Nation podcast, Hill expressed his desire for the crowd to benevolently support Verstappen rather than chase Hamilton and get on his back.

Hamilton was booed loudly at the Hungaroring in an angry response to the couple’s now infamous Silverstone crash, despite interviewer Johnny Herbert pleading with the roaring crowd to stop.

The race takes place on the Circuit Zandvoort, not far from Amsterdam.

The track has undergone significant renovations in recent years to make it suitable for modern F1 vehicles.

The first race back in Zandvoort was supposed to take place in the 2020 season, but like so many sporting events it has been postponed due to the Covid pandemic.

Hamilton starts the weekend in Belgium with eight points ahead of Verstappen in the drivers’ championship.

The Englishman experienced a massive turnaround at the two events before the three-week summer break.

He made Verstappen’s previous 32 point lead with a controversial win at Silverstone, followed by a second place finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix, where his challenger finished only ninth as his car was damaged by Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas.

The Belgian Grand Prix weekend starts on Friday with the first practice session.

Both Mercedes and Red Bull will decide on the future teammates of Hamilton and Verstappen either before the weekend in Belgium or in the following week.
