The consistency and talent of F1 legend and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton are well known. The Briton, who currently has only eight points behind Max Verstappen in the championship, already had a long and impressive career in his junior years.
Footage from 1998 shows a young Lewis Hamilton clearing kart after kart as he makes his way through the field, much faster than the others. The Stevenage boy has spent most of his life in karts and racing cars after starting serious go-karting at the tender age of eight.
In the video embedded above, the driver can be seen on his way through the field in his first year in the JICA Kart in 1998. He started in last place and fought his way through the field, beating the rest of his competitors to win. The performance was on par with the 36-year-old’s recent drive at the Brazilian Grand Prix, where he started in 10th place before eventually finishing in first place.

The Briton then made great career steps over the next five years, winning the Formula Renault 2.0 UK series in 2003 and giving the world a glimpse into the future.
Hamilton then won the GP2 championship in 2006 and finally made his Formula 1 debut in 2007 alongside Fernando Alonso.
