Nico Rosberg is still angry at Lewis Hamilton for an incident at the 2015 US Grand Prix which led to the German throwing his cap at his team mate after the race. The Brit forced Rosberg off at the first corner of the race having stolen first position from his Mercedes colleague, who had started on pole. He went on to win, claiming his third World Championship title in the process, which led to the infamous post-race incident.
The 2015 season was Rosberg and Hamilton’s third as Mercedes team mates, and the second year in a row the duo had been in direct competition for the championship. The Brit had sealed the title in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix the year before and once again had the advantage over his team mate in 2015, needing a win in the US Grand Prix to seal the success with three races to spare.
However, Rosberg took pole in a rain-hit qualifying, giving him the advantage. Yet, it was Hamilton who led after the first corner, using the excuse of the damp conditions to force the German wide. He rejoined the track behind the Red Bulls of Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kyvat as well as Sergio Perez’s Force India.
Rosberg’s recovery was impressive and he was the quicker Mercedes throughout the changeable conditions to get himself back to the front with ten laps to go. He looked to be heading for a comfortable win but went wide at turn 13, blaming a ‘big gust of wind’ for his mistake.

However, many within the paddock believe Rosberg ended up using the race and the cap incident to his advantage, winning the final three races of the 2015 season. He was a much-improved driver a year later too, winning his one and only F1 crown as he beat Hamilton to the title, retiring from the sport in the immediate aftermath.
