Lewis Hamilton may not return to the sport if former F1 owner Bernie Ecclestone is believed.
Ecclestone, who has been a Formula 1 superstar for decades, believes Hamilton could jeopardize his reputation if he returns in 2022.
Lewis Hamilton may not be able to choose to return due to the end of the 2021 World Drivers Championship. Ecclestone believes the Briton will have to overcome the pain of his loss to Max Verstappen if he is to keep racing in 2022.
In an interview with Blick.ch, Ecclestone said of Hamilton’s chances of returning to the F1 grid with Mercedes in the 2022 season:
“I don’t think he’s coming back. His disappointment is too great. And somehow you can understand it. He has seven titles like Michael Schumacher, so now might be a good time to start his dream of becoming a fashion entrepreneur? ”
Lewis Hamilton had control of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for most of the race and seemed poised to win his eighth drivers’ championship.
That was before a Nicholas Latifi accident got the safety car out and allowed Verstappen to pit for a set of fresher, softer tires compared to Hamilton’s worn, hard tires.
Race director Michael Masi then decided to only allow lapped cars that are stuck between Hamilton and Verstappen to drive out before he abruptly called the safety car. This ultimately benefited Verstappen at the expense of Hamilton.
Fashion or American motorsport, what could Lewis Hamilton wear next?
Lewis Hamilton has shown a keen interest in fashion, as Ecclestone pointed out. The Brit has worked with designer Tommy Hilfiger and the late Virgil Abloh in the past, and also campaigned for aspiring color designers at the Met Gala.
Should he decide to hang up his racing gloves in Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton could also try other disciplines. In the past he has mentioned his interest in NASCAR and Indycar in interviews. So it may come as no surprise that the Brit appears on the American motorsport scene after his F1 stint.
