The battle for the Formula 1 drivers’ championship intensifies as Lewis Hamilton retains his championship lead after the Hungarian Grand Prix. His team Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 is also at the top of the mid-season rankings again.

Hamilton currently has 192 points on his scorecard. That is only six points ahead of Red Bulls Max Verstappen, who impressively finished third last season. Valtteri Bottas is fourth with 108 points, five points behind McLaren driver Lando Norris. In the team standings, Mercedes leads with 300 points, while Red Bull is in front of the door with 290 points and McLaren is third with 163 points.

The race in Hungary ended with an amazing win for Alpine underdog Esteban Ocon. The 21-year-old driver quickly took advantage of the multiple car incident on the first corner, which hampered Vestappen’s performance and started a chain reaction for the other competitors.

Hamilton’s momentum, starting from pole position, was also halted by a red flag to clear up the debris after the slaughter. This resulted in a restart, then he dropped back to 14th place, falling back last on the way before recapturing his loft and finishing third. However, the disqualification of Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel after officials were unable to take the required fuel sample from his car increased the overall standings and put Hamilton in second place and thus on Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz on the final podium.

A Ferrari representative appealed the commissioners’ decision, but the verdict was final after it was determined that “a 1.0 liter fuel sample could not be taken from Car 5 after the race”.
