Lando Norris agrees with Fernando Alonso’s claim about Mercedes F1 in 2021

Lando Norris agrees with Fernando Alonso's claim about Mercedes F1 in 2021

Max Verstappen, who won the 2021 Formula 1 season, was, if not for a moment, one of the greatest accomplishments in F1 history. This is simply because the Red Bull driver faced a seven-time world champion who led the fight until the final round of the season. He also competed against the most dominant constructor in F1 history, Mercedes. And that’s something another McLaren F1 driver is, too, Lando Norris believes.

In a recent interview, the Brit spoke about the very clear difference between the Silver Arrows and the rest of the grid.

Speaking of Verstappen’s win, Norris said, “I don’t think he’s had a better car this season. Mercedes had the more powerful car in most cases, but as a driver he was less unlucky and made fewer mistakes. “

“He took on Lewis, who is much more experienced and has won many world titles.”

After Fernando Alonso, Norris was the second driver to comment on the superior car of the German team.

Alonso shares the same views

Before the end of the season, Fernando Alonso praised the level at which Verstappen was driving compared to the rest of the team. But he believed the Germans deserved the constructor’s trophy.

Alonso said: “In my opinion Max is one step ahead of all of us.”

“Mercedes deserved the constructors’ championship because the car is superior and Max was perhaps one step ahead of everyone over the year.”

In a way, Alonso’s opinion turned into a prediction that became a reality. In the end, Max Verstappen won the drivers ‘championship, while Mercedes won the constructors’ championship for the eighth time in a row. And both were deserved.

But the question is, will Verstappen and Mercedes carry that dominance into the next season when we’ll see a new car?

Or will Ferrari and McLaren also have their say in the championship? It will be interesting to see how the new era begins in F1.
