Hamilton was fastest in qualifying on Friday, but pole position is not officially attributed to him as that honor – and three championship points – goes to the sprint winner.
When asked how he would approach the 17-lap race, Hamilton made it clear that he will give full throttle.
“Only all weapons burn,” he said. “I have to get the lion out tomorrow and give him everything. It starts at the start, so we’re going to practice on it, we have the long-term training on P2.
“I mean, overtaking Red Bull is not easy, so it really helps to be where we are. But we have to get out, and we still have so many things and obstacles ahead of us. The sprint race will be interesting, I think I have the car where I need it, so we’ll see. “
Riders have mixed views about how the sprint will go and how much risk they will take. McLaren’s Lando Norris, who will start from sixth on the grid, suggested that a prudent approach would be appropriate.
“I mean, it’s not a long race, is it?” He said. “So just push as much as possible. I don’t think it will be too messy, maybe for the first few laps, but then everything will calm down and it will be very easy.
“So it’s not about taking risks, it’s about choosing your battles wisely because the points are still on Sunday and not just Saturday.”

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, who qualified five places behind his teammate Charles Leclerc in ninth place, sees the sprint as an opportunity to make up ground.
“I think we have a good opportunity to exert pressure,” said the Spaniard. “We have to see what we can do to regain some positions because I had a feeling that the car could at least have been in the top 6 today, so we have to find a way.”
Fernando Alonso suggested seeing the sprint as the first part of a longer event.
“Tomorrow is the first stint of the race and then we’ll take a night’s break and then we’ll continue on Sunday,” said the alpine driver. “So it will be interesting to learn and see what we can improve with this performance.”
