At the age of just 22, Hamilton made his F1 debut at McLaren. In his second season with the British team, he won his first driver’s world title after a dramatic Brazilian Grand Prix. The Stevenage-born driver needed a fifth place and overtook Timo Glock on the final lap to deny home hero Felipe Massa his first F1 driver title.
After the 2012 season, Hamilton signed for Mercedes, to which he switched from the 2013 season. Although they didn’t fight for the World Cup straight away, the Silver Arrows took over from the 2014 season.
Together with two different teammates, the Brit helped Mercedes trot to seven constructors’ world championships. In addition, he added six more driver championships to his own record, which correspond to the total of seven values set by Michael Schumacher.
At this year’s Spanish Grand Prix, Hamilton made history by becoming the first in his career to achieve 100 pole positions. However, this was only his 74th pole position in nine seasons with the Silver Arrows.
At the Hungarian Grand Prix a few months later, he took his 101st pole position and 75th with Mercedes. Before joining the German team, he clinched 26 pole positions with McLaren.
