Mercedes switched its traditional Silver Arrows livery to an all-black design ahead of the delayed start of the 2020 season to deliver a strong anti-racism message amid activism around the world.
The black livery was retained for a second season in 2021, but the team could revert to its silver design next year.
After a similar change for the last six races of the 2019-20 Formula E season in Berlin last year, the Mercedes Formula E team returned to its silver livery for the 2020-21 season.
Hamilton was the loudest figure in Formula 1, campaigning for more diversity and equality in the industry.
Last year he founded the Hamilton Commission to improve the representation of blacks in British motorsport and worked with Mercedes on its internal Accelerate 25 program.
Speaking of the Russian Grand Prix weekend, Hamilton said he had no “special feel for it” when asked about a possible return to a silver livery, and put a greater focus on the practical changes aimed at enhancing diversity and inclusion occur.
“It’s originally a Silver Arrow,” said Hamilton.
“When I asked if we could black out the car last year in terms of symbolism and what we want to do in terms of support, I didn’t expect it to last that long and we carried it into a second season which is great.
“When it goes back, it’s a nice change. That doesn’t deter us from the changes we’re making internally, as we’re really pushing for diversity in collaboration with all of our partners.
“These little children came to UBS the other day” [and talk to us as we] try to inspire the next generation of engineers from different backgrounds.
“We have a good program going, so it doesn’t make any difference.”
Mercedes launched its Accelerate 25 program last December and outlined a five-year plan that aims to have 25% of all newcomers on the team come from underrepresented groups by 2025.
Hamilton and Mercedes jointly launched a nonprofit initiative called Ignite in July of this year on the recommendation of the Hamilton Commission, which focuses on raising the level of diverse talent entering motorsport and pursuing careers in STEM subjects.
