Hamilton warns Verstappen 'will only get better' by Marko | F1 | Sports

Red Bull boss Helmut Marko has warned Lewis Hamilton that 25-year-old Max Verstappen ‘will only get better’ after the Dutch driver won his second world championship in as many years. Verstappen was locked in a battle with Hamilton last season winning his first championship during a controversial final race in Abu Dhabi, but won the title with much more ease this season.

Marko helped Verstappen’s development at Toro Rosso and then into Red Bull and believes the Dutch driver is the ‘best’ currently in F1. “We have never been so dominant, this was our best season ever, and Max will only get better,” said the Red Bull chief.

“He has been better this year than ever before. He is fast, he is really good on his tires now and he has a better view all over in the car.

“Look at the last race (in Abu Dhabi), he won in a relatively easy way. I really expect him to improve even more in the next few years. As a team we have done an outstanding job this season.”

Red Bull were found to have breached last year’s budget cap by £1.8million and the FIA punished them with a 10 per cent reduction in wind tunnel and CFD development for next season. Marko has been vocally slamming the punishment issued by the FIA and says less wind tunnel time will make life harder next season.

“It is simple, there is no room for mistakes,” added Marko. “We have to be sharper than ever and the motivation to come out stronger in 2023 will only be bigger.”
