Hamilton and Mercedes only announced they had signed a one-year contract extension for the 2021 season in February after postponing talks last season.
Hamilton has previously said that he will not treat 2021 as his final season in F1 and recently commented that he intends to compete with Mercedes in 2022. The Brit scored his third win in four races at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, his best start to an F1 season to date in the quest for an unprecedented eighth world title.
Hamilton said after the race that he would like to start talks with Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff earlier than 2020 and consider the summer break in August as a point where he would like to sew his future together.
“We never want to be in the position we were in January and February,” said Hamilton. “It ruined my whole winter and I’m sure it didn’t help Toto when it came to being relaxed and relaxed. So it felt like we didn’t really have much break.”
“I think we have to be sensible. Of course we don’t have to rush anything, but I think we have to be sensible and start conversations. They are very complex. It’s never a super easy process and so hopefully we can get started soon – as long as we can actual job doesn’t bother.
“We still have 19 races to go, but it would be great to fix something before the break so that we can have a clear picture of the future during this break.”

Mercedes currently has two vacancies for the 2022 season, although Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas no longer has a contract.
Mercedes junior George Russell will be a free agent at the end of his existing Williams contract, making promotion to the senior national team possible.
But Wolff said on Friday in Barcelona that it was “far too early” to talk about the Mercedes line-up for next year, since a change in the middle of the season was out of the question for Bottas.
At 36, Hamilton is one of the oldest drivers on the F1 grid. However, after the race in Spain there was “some life left in this old dog” and he is more focused than ever on his physical condition.
“I would say I am more aware of my body and my training regime than ever before,” said Hamilton.
“I’ve trained myself for a long time, but I’ve kept growing and learning how to naturally take care of the vessel that was given to me and I feel great.”
