Grosjeans farewell F1 test moves one step closer with seat attachment · RaceFans

Romain Grosjean, Coyne, Laguna Seca, 2021

Romain Grosjean has completed a seat adjustment in preparation for his farewell Formula 1 test, which Mercedes is expected to arrange.

Netflix’s Drive to Survive series executive producer James Gay-Rees revealed Grosjean’s seat adjustment in an interview for the In The Fast Lane podcast.

Grosjean, who drives in IndyCar this year, was offered the test after his violent fall at the Bahrain Grand Prix last year. Grosjean suffered burns that prevented him from participating in the last two races of his F1 career.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff confirmed last December that they were ready to offer him a car. “If we can do this and no one in his universe of teams he has participated in offered him such an opportunity, we would,” he said.

In February Grosjean announced that he had spoken to Mercedes and “finalized the plan for the test.”

A spokesman for the world champion declined to confirm whether Grosjean had visited his seat attachment factory.

Grosjean’s test must take place within the FIA’s strict limits on when teams can drive their cars. They are not allowed to drive their current cars outside of race weekends, official tests and two days of shooting per season, but they are allowed to test machines from previous seasons.

The test must be scheduled as part of Grosjean’s IndyCar commitments. He will make his debut for Coyne at the Alabama Grand Prix at Barber Motorsport Park on April 18th.
