At the beginning of this month, Grosjean carried out a seat adjustment at the Mercedes plant before a farewell test at Paul Ricard’s in June.
The Frenchman wanted to do one final test foray in an F1 car after his dramatic fireball crash at the Bahrain Grand Prix last year, which forced him to miss the final two races of 2020 due to his injuries.
Mercedes has organized a test for Grosjean to drive Lewis Hamilton’s 2019 title car on June 29, while he can also drive the W10 on the French GP weekend.
Grosjean admitted that he was immediately impressed with what he had experienced during his brief visit to Brackley.
“I came to the factory and was amazed at the facilities and the way people work on it. After five minutes at Mercedes in Brackley, I could easily understand why they were the most successful sports team in history I think.
“Find another team, regardless of the sport, that has won as much as Mercedes. It is almost impossible. So it is very clear when you get in there and see and understand it.

“Although everyone in Bahrain tests this year was of the opinion that Red Bull is faster, we can start with three races – Mercedes two, Red Bull one. That is the strength of this team. They may not have the fastest car but they will always find a solution to it and you will feel it when you are there. “
Grosjean had a long F1 career starting in 2009 when Renault replaced Nelson Piquet Jr. in mid-season.
He returned with Lotus in 2012, having secured the GP2 Series title in 2011 before moving to Haas in late 2016 – where he stayed with the American team until 2020.

Explaining the differences between the teams he drove for and Mercedes, he added, “I would say it’s the culture at the top. From there, the detail is pushed to the maximum. Everyone is really trying to find the solution to find the solution that goes faster.
“Of course the facilities are amazing, but I think a lot of teams can have the facilities, but then it’s just how you use them, how you optimize them.”
